Golf Courses in Phuket: Tee Times, Green Fees & the Island’s Best Courses (2026)

Phuket’s best golf courses weren’t built on resort land — they were carved from abandoned tin mines. Blue Canyon’s championship course plays through canyons of exposed rock where miners worked a century ago. Red Mountain drops you into ravines lined with red earth and jungle canopy. These aren’t polished parkland layouts. They’re dramatic, visual, and unlike anything you’ll play elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

Then there’s the other half of the equation: the Andaman Sea is never more than 20 minutes from any fairway. Morning tee time, afternoon beach. A Jack Nicklaus design with coastal views. Tiger Woods played here. Eight courses bookable online, green fees from $101 to $166, and the strongest golf-plus-holiday combination in the region.

The Courses That Came From Tin Mines

Phuket was one of the world’s largest tin-mining islands for over a century. When mining declined in the 1980s and 1990s, it left behind a landscape that was scarred, dramatic, and — as course architects realized — perfect for golf. Deep canyons, walls of exposed red rock, steep elevation drops, and massive water-filled pits created the raw material for something no designer could replicate on flat ground.

Blue Canyon (1991) was the first to build on this terrain. Red Mountain (2007) pushed it further, routing holes through the ruins of the mining operation itself. No other golf destination on earth has this specific landscape origin — and it gives Phuket courses a visual intensity that you simply won’t find in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, or most of the golf world.

Phuket Golf Courses You Can Book Online

Eight courses, each with a distinct character. Rather than sorting by price — the range is tight, $101 to $166 — they’re grouped here by the kind of experience they deliver.

Championship & Dramatic Terrain

These are the courses that define Phuket golf. The tin-mine legacy, the tournament history, the holes that stay with you.

Blue Canyon Country Club — Canyon Course — $166
The course that started it all. Designed by Yoshikazu Kato (President of the Japan Golf Association) and opened in 1991, Blue Canyon’s Canyon Course is built on former tin-mine terrain with exposed rock faces, dramatic elevation changes, and a routing that uses the natural canyons as both hazard and spectacle. Tiger Woods played here. The Johnnie Walker Classic (1994) brought the European Tour to this course and put Phuket golf on the international map.

At 7,179 yards from the tips, it’s a serious championship test — the conditioning is premium, the greens are fast, and the canyon walls framing certain holes create a visual pressure that flat courses can’t replicate. Just 15 minutes from the airport. If you play one course in Phuket, this is the one with the strongest claim.

Red Mountain Golf Club — $166
Phuket’s most dramatic golf experience. Opened in 2007, Red Mountain was built directly on and through the remnants of an abandoned tin mine — and the architects (Jonathan Morrow and Al Tikkanen) didn’t try to hide the industrial past. They celebrated it. The routing takes you through ravines of red laterite earth, past mine-shaft ruins reclaimed by jungle, and across elevation changes that feel more like a national park trail than a fairway.

At 6,781 yards, the yardage is manageable, but the terrain makes every hole feel bigger than the scorecard suggests. Sister course to Loch Palm (they’re 10 minutes apart), making them a natural one-day pair: Red Mountain in the morning for the challenge, Loch Palm in the afternoon for the recovery.

Resort & Scenic

For golfers who want quality design and good conditioning without the intensity of tin-mine terrain. These courses sit within Phuket’s resort infrastructure and are well-suited to mixed groups and holiday golfers.

Laguna Golf Phuket — $153
The most resort-integrated course on the island, sitting inside the Laguna Phuket complex — Asia’s first integrated destination resort, home to Banyan Tree, Angsana, and several other hotel brands. Redesigned by Paul Jansen, the course winds through lagoons and tropical landscaping at par 71, 6,778 yards. It’s the easiest course to access if you’re staying in the Laguna area, and the resort vibe means mixed groups (golfers and non-golfers) can split their day without anyone feeling left out.

Mission Hills Phuket — $150
The only Jack Nicklaus design on the island. Coastal and mangrove-influenced, with sea views on several holes that remind you where you are. At 6,806 yards, the layout rewards precision — the Nicklaus signature of strategic bunkering and well-defended greens is evident throughout. Just 15 minutes from the airport. A strong choice for golfers who care about designer pedigree.

Loch Palm Golf Club — $151
The scenic, forgiving counterpart to Red Mountain (they share the same management under MBK Golf). Loch Palm’s defining feature is Crystal Lake — a stunning water feature that comes into play on multiple holes and provides the visual centerpiece of the course. Designed by Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai at 6,470 yards, it plays shorter and gentler than the championship courses, making it ideal for a relaxed round or as the second half of a Red Mountain pairing.

Coastal & Modern

Aquella Country Club — $101
The newest course in the Phuket orbit (opened 2021) and the most affordable bookable option. Designed by Pacific Coast Design, Aquella sits along a 2.5 km private beachfront — the only course in this guide where the beach is literally part of the property. One important note: Aquella is technically in Phang Nga province, about 45 minutes north of the airport, not on Phuket island itself. It’s routinely included in Phuket golf guides because it’s the closest course of its kind, but the drive is real. Worth it for the price and the coastal setting.

Historic & Flexible

Phuket Country Club — $149
Phuket’s original course, opened in 1989 — the one that proved the island could support golf tourism. A 27-hole complex with the Old Course (18 holes, approximately 6,491 yards) and a 9-hole Country Course. Designed by Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai. The layout is more traditional than the dramatic tin-mine courses, with mature trees and a settled feel that comes from over 35 years of growth. About 55 minutes from the airport on the southern end of the island.

Blue Canyon Country Club — Lake Course — $105
Blue Canyon’s second course, opened in 1999 as a complement to the Canyon Course. As the name suggests, water is the dominant theme — lakes and streams come into play frequently. At $105, it’s the most affordable way to experience the Blue Canyon property, and the conditioning benefits from the same premium maintenance as the Canyon Course. A natural second-day option if you’re playing the Canyon Course first — same venue, different character, lower intensity.

Pair Your Rounds

Phuket’s compact size makes course pairing easy. Three combinations that work particularly well:

Red Mountain + Loch Palm — The classic Phuket pairing. Both in the Kathu area, 10 minutes apart, managed by MBK Golf. Play Red Mountain in the morning for the dramatic challenge, then Loch Palm in the afternoon for a scenic, forgiving recovery round by Crystal Lake.

Blue Canyon Canyon + Lake — Two days, one venue. The Canyon Course for the championship experience, the Lake Course for a more relaxed follow-up. No driving between courses, and you can eat lunch at the clubhouse between rounds.

Laguna + Mission Hills — Both in the northern part of the island, both resort-friendly. Laguna for the integrated resort experience, Mission Hills for the Nicklaus pedigree. A good combination for groups where not everyone wants a demanding round.

When to Play

Dry season (November – April) is the straightforward recommendation: sunny, warm (28–33°C), and courses in peak condition. This is also Phuket’s high season for tourism, so book 1–2 weeks ahead for popular courses.

Wet season (May – October) follows the familiar Thai pattern: mornings are usually fine, rain arrives in the afternoon. Green fees drop 30–50%, courses are emptier, and the island’s vegetation is at its most lush. Playable if you tee off early.

Unlike Chiang Mai, Phuket has no cool season and no burning season. It’s tropical year-round. Play early morning in any month to beat the heat.

Golf + Beach: The Phuket Day

This is what makes Phuket different from every other destination in this series. Morning tee time at Blue Canyon or Red Mountain. Back at your hotel by early afternoon. The rest of the day on the beach at Patong, Kata, or Karon — or at your resort pool. Dinner on the waterfront as the sun sets over the Andaman Sea.

No other destination in this guide offers that combination. Bangkok has the golf but not the beach. Chiang Mai has the mountains but you’re landlocked. Phuket gives you both, and the island is small enough that you’re never more than an hour from either one.

What’s Included

Green fee packages at Phuket courses typically include green fee, caddy, and cart — all three are compulsory at most clubs. Caddy tips are not included: budget THB 300–500 ($8–14) in cash, paid at the end of your round.

Rental clubs are available at all courses, with better-than-average quality for Thailand. Dress code is standard golf attire at every course — no beachwear, no flip-flops.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many golf courses are in Phuket?
About 8 on or near the island, all bookable online with confirmed pricing. This includes Aquella, which is technically in Phang Nga province but widely included in Phuket golf guides.

What is the best golf course in Phuket?
Blue Canyon’s Canyon Course for championship pedigree and tournament history. Red Mountain for the most dramatic landscape — the tin-mine terrain is unlike anything else in Thailand. Laguna for resort-integrated golf that’s easy to combine with a holiday.

How much does golf cost in Phuket?
$101–$166 per round, typically including caddy and cart. The range is tighter than Bangkok — there are no $39 budget rounds here, but no $200+ premium outliers either.

Is Phuket good for golf?
Emphatically yes. The tin-mine terrain gives Phuket courses a visual drama that flat-terrain destinations can’t match. Add championship designs by Nicklaus and Kato, the Andaman Sea backdrop, and beaches 20 minutes from every fairway, and it’s one of Asia’s best golf-holiday destinations.

When is the best time for golf in Phuket?
November–April (dry season) for the best weather. May–October for lower prices and fewer crowds — mornings are usually clear, with rain arriving after 2 PM.

Can you combine golf and beach in Phuket?
That’s the entire point. Morning tee time, afternoon beach. The island is compact enough that no course is more than an hour from the main beach areas. It’s the strongest golf-plus-holiday combination in Southeast Asia.
